Google Celebrates Selena, The Queen Of Tejano Music, With Its Newest Doodle

On Tuesday, exactly 28 years after the October 17, 1989 release of Selena Quintanilla's first studio album - the eponymous "Selena" - Google paid tribute to the late Tejano star with a musical Doodle showcasing her inspiring rise to fame. In 1986, she was awarded the Tejano Music award for "Female Vocalist of the Year".

"Selena has always transcended cultural boundaries, and having this Doodle featuring a strong, Latina woman on the homepage of Google around the world is a ideal example [of] that", Suzette Quintanilla, the late singer's sister, said in a statement.

Selena Quintanilla, who was born in Lake Jackson, Tex., in 1971, was murdered in 1995 by the president of her fan club in Corpus Christi.

However, the Doodle itself is animated and plays "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom", one of the singer's popular songs featured on the 1994 album "Amor Prohibido". Besides being a singer/songwriter, she was also a spokesperson, model, actress, and fashion designer.

Selena Quintanilla, originally from Texas, knew she was bound to be a performer from an early age. After she turned nine, Selena and her older siblings A.B.

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 8.10 million shares. The Nasdaq Composite added 14.29 points, or 0.22 % to 6,605.80, a record closing high.

The doodle idea was conceived by Perla Campos, Google's global marketing lead. Selena Quintanilla had many hits throughout her career and one of her most prominent one was "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" due to its catchy title and tune.
