Apple delays the HomePod speaker until 2018

Created to be a "premium" (read: expensive) take on the likes of Amazon's Echo and Google Home personal assistants, the $350 HomePod put its emphasis on high-quality audio.

The delay of the device has set back the company on many fronts. A lot of people would have included the Apple HomePod to their shopping list already. It could be as innocent as production issues similar to what Nintendo or Tesla have experienced, or it could be that they found a giant bug in their technology that needs to be hammered out before it hit the production line (squash!). Apple's new smart speaker will not arrive in time for the holidays as scheduled. Apple promises to focus on providing a more premier speaker experience with the HomePod to help justify the price with. Competitors in the smart speaker space, meanwhile, are flooding the zone.

Inside the mesh-wrapped 18cm cylinder - which is not much taller than an iPhone 7 - is Apple's A8 processor (the same silicon powerplant as the iPhone 6 series) perched atop an array of speakers and microphones. The big question in everyone's mind is how good would be the SIRI personal assistant on the HomePod and if it will match up with the dynamic properties of Amazon's Alexa or Google Assistant.

Pak not weak, won't allow india to take AJK, says Indian minister
The National Conference leader was addressing party workers in Uri area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. So take it (AJK), we are also saying please take it (from Pakistan). "That is Pakistan and this is India".

Instead of being available in December, it will ship early next year, the company told CNN Tech. Apple's statement on Friday about the HomePod delay seems to be lifted nearly directly from its AirPods delay announcement in October 2016, which said: "We don't believe in shipping a product before it's ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers". The much awaited smart speaker was originally set to be released in United States by December 2017, but will now be available in USA, U.K. and Australia by early 2018. Therefore such a sudden step by the company is unclear.

Note that the "early 2018" date is a somewhat ambiguous date. This year it has 27 million devices in homes of the US citizens.

- If you were hoping to buy a HomePod for your honey this holiday season, you'll have to come up with plan b. It has to do with Apple delaying quite a few products which is not something unusual for them.
