The Padmavati controversy has turned deadly as News18 reports that a body was found hanging at a Nahargarho Fort near Jaipur today, with messages that threatened: "Padmavati ka virodh" (opposition against Padmavati) and "Hum putle nahi jalate, latkate hain" ().

The brother of the man who was found dead at Nahargarh Fort in Jaipur has claimed that the deceased had nothing to do with the threat and called his death a murder. Everyone in the neighbourhood recalls Chetan as an obedient, sincere, introvert and peaceful man, and refutes the possibility that such messages could be written by him.

The release of the Hindi film, earlier scheduled for December 1, has been deferred.

The identity of the man, around 40-years-old, is yet to be ascertained, according to sources.

One of the stones had a message saying, "Hum sirf putlay nehi latkaate Padmavati (We don't hang just effigies Padmavati)".

"Padmavati", the Rs 190-crore film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been in the eye of the storm following protests in Rajasthan where fringe groups like the Karni Sena says the movie "distorts history".

The film Padmavati tells the story of a 14th-Century Hindu queen belonging to the high Rajput caste and the Muslim ruler Alauddin Khilji. This was not the way of the Sena's protest, he added. While she is busy writing the information and broadcasting ministry urging that Padmavati must not be released without including the changes demanded by various protesting groups, a shocking incident like this in her backyard should bring priorities into focus.

This did not prevent several politicians from demanding a ban on the movie, while Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, and Rajasthan have already refused to allow a release of the movie in the state even if it is cleared by the censors.

The lavishly mounted film, starring Deepika Padukone in the title role, and Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, is a joint production by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions.
