New just broke that Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead in the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.

Brie has signed on to play Marvel feminist icon Carol Danvers in the feature, who had an Easter Egg cameo in Doctor Strange. Details are limited on the character, but the outlet notes that he will be a mentor character to Larson's titular hero after she gains her super powers.

There are now no specific details on his role, but Variety, which first reported the news, says Law will play a mentor to the new superhero. Besides Larson and Law, Ben Mendelsohn is on board to play the villain, because being on board to play the villain is what Ben Mendelsohn does. The DNA gave her superpowers and she became first the superhero Ms. Marvel, then Binary and Warbird before finally taking over the mantle of Captain Marvel. It would make sense for Marvel to keep Law's exact role in the film's story under wraps for now, considering the cosmic ramifications of introducing Mar-Vell, but with Captain Marvel set to shoot early next year more information should soon come to light.

The film will be set in the 1990s with Samuel L. Jackson expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury. He is also still attached to appear in a third Sherlock Holmes movie with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr.
