Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: Most Powerful 'Vette Ever Produced

GM hasn't put a price tag on the 2019 Corvette ZR1, but will go on sale in the Spring.

Chevy estimates the output of the ZR1 to be 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque. It is known that the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has a top speed of 338 km/h Model is available with two versions of wing: Low Wing and High Wing. Equipped with a hand-built, supercharged 6.2-liter V8, the third installment of the ZR1 made 638-hp, boasted a top speed of 205 miles per hour, and included lots of carbon fiber body work, a magnesium front cradle, a unique rear axle design, carbon ceramic brakes, a magnetic ride control suspension, a 6-speed manual gearbox with a twin-disc clutch, and a launch control system to maximize acceleration. These days, you can't think about acceleration without worrying about fuel economy and emissions. In addition, the powertrain also gets an upgraded crankshaft, dry sump lubrication, and a new 4-inch throttle body.

That bigger supercharger meant a taller engine altogether, one that wouldn't clear the hood; so, while the center carbon-fibre section looks like one piece, it's actually separate, with the intercooler on top poking through, in a sort of retro "shaker hood" style.

For the first time, the ZR1 is available with an eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission or seven-speed manual. The Z06, for perspective, now is the fastest Corvette you can buy, and produces 650 horsepower.

Other key features are two aero packages. It generates a maximum 950 pounds of downforce. Both of the new ZR1's wing setups are attached directly to the chassis, similar to the construction on the Corvette Racing C7.R. One thing to note about the rear wing is that, while it offers a pretty sleek touch, and added performance benefits, it prevents drivers from being able to easily access the trunk.

The newly designed front fascia serves to redirect air for engine and drivetrain cooling. It relies on a continuously variable damping technology based on magnetorheological fluids, a system so precise and solid even Ferrari is now using it.

On Sunday in Dubai, Chevy pulled the cover off the newest, baddest 'Vette: the ZR1.

Sports seats come as an optional extra, the site adds, as does "a carbon-fibre rimmed steering wheel".

Inside, Motor Trend says, the new ZR1 features leather seats with "suede-like microfibre" highlights, along with "an option to make them heated and cooled". There's also a premium grade Bose audio package for savoring the moments when you're just cruising down the highway.

Chevrolet wants the Corvette to become a global flagship for the brand, in the same way the Ford Mustang expanded beyond North America with its most recent model. And for good reason.

Consider for a moment that is also 300 hp more than the base Corvette Stingray and you realize this auto means the business.

It's a boutique approach that in many ways is at odds with the "supercar for the people" strategy Chevy has long taken with the Corvette in general, but it makes a lot of sense for the 2019 ZR1.
