Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' net worth is now more than $US100 billion ($131 billion) after the retailer cashed in on enormous worldwide demand for Black Friday sales.

The online retailer's shares jumped more than two percent in anticipation of the extra income from the sales, causing 53-year-old entrepreneurs own fortune to go up by $2.4 billion (£1.8bn) to $100.3 billion (£75.2 bn), further securing his title of world's richest man. In fact, the latter had amassed just over $90 billion back in July, temporarily wresting the mantle from the former Microsoft CEO and chairman before regaining it once again in the last few weeks. As pointed by the report, online sales increased by 18.4 percentage in comparison to a year ago as reported by Adobe Analytics.

Bezos is the first person to pass the $100bn mark since Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates in 1999, according to Bloomberg.

The identity of the man, around 40-years-old, is yet to be ascertained, according to sources. The release of the Hindi film, earlier scheduled for December 1, has been deferred.

In 1999, it was Bill Gates who was able to reach this mark. As a result, Bezos now has a fortune estimated to be $100.3 billion, with roughly a third of that amount contributed during the course of this year alone. Same goes for Warren Buffet, the USA investor who is the third richest person with $78.9 billion.

Bezos surpassed Gates in October as Amazon delivered better-than-expected quarterly profits on the back of its ultra-successful web services arm of the business.

That said, Bezos is starting to focus a bit more on philanthropy. "I'm thinking I want much of my philanthropic activity to be helping people in the here and now-short term-at the intersection of urgent need and lasting impact", he wrote in June.
