First lady Melania Trump visits Beijing Zoo in Beijing, China.

Melania Trump's been savaged on social media for her inappropriate footwear plenty of times, yet continued to wear stilletoes on nearly every occasion because, well, she clearly likes them and who's to say what the "right" shoe is anyway?

Melania had stayed in China after husband Donald left for Vietnam, where he was taking part in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

She rode a cable vehicle to a watchtower, signed a guestbook and strolled along a stretch of the wall for about half an hour with a small group of aides and security officers, according to the Associated Press.

Beijing Zoo's world famous giant pandas refused to be upstaged when Melania Trump came to visit, with one cheekily "photobombing" the First Lady.

The pair have already visited Japan and South Korea, and arrived in China on Wednesday to meet with President Xi and Madame Peng Liyuan.

She gave the children eagle toys, telling them, "You have a panda here, we have an eagle in the United States".

"They were in the United States before and we have a great relationship with all three of them", she said.
