Former United States goalkeeper Hope Solo has accused Sepp Blatter of sexually assaulting her at the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony in January 2013, a claim the ex-FIFA president's spokesman has described as "ridiculous".

"I had Sepp Blatter grab my ass".

Soccer star Hope Solo alleged in a recent interview that former Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter sexually assault her as she was about to present an award.

Solo, 36, told the Portuguese newspaper Tribuna Expresso that she "had Sepp Blatter grab my a-" while the pair was backstage at the awards event. "I had to quickly pull myself together to present my teammate with the biggest award of her career and celebrate with her in that moment, so I completely shifted my focus to Abby".

"I speak out directly [with people] when things like that happen", she said. "Can-I-talk-about-that-" target="_blank">Portuguese magazine Expresso about sexual harassment in women's sports and its prevalence. She said she's disappointed in her colleagues who have been victims but who have not spoken out about their own experiences.

"For the past few days, I have been thinking about all the uncomfortable situations myself and/or my team-mates have experienced throughout the years with trainers, doctors, coaches, executives and even team-mates". Silence will not change the world! "They could, for example, have tighter shorts. That decision was taken to create a more female aesthetic, so why not do it in fashion?" Blatter is already serving a ban from Federation Internationale de Football Association after he was ousted for a variety of crimes that rocked worldwide soccer in recent years, but the serious accusation from Solo is an entirely new wrong for Blatter.

Solo also spoke out about the matter via her Instagram account recently (some words have been edited by LBS).

Solo, a World Cup victor and two-time Olympic champion, made the allegations on the sidelines of the Web Summit being held in Lisbon.
