Frigid temps to continue through New Year

Wind chills of 10-15 below.

Strengthening northwest winds will direct a surge of arctic-source cold into northern IL and northwest IN on Sunday night.

Due to the extended cold snap, it's recommended that everyone reduce time spent outdoors during this period due to the increased likelihood of hypothermia and frost bite. The wind chill will range anywhere from -10 to -15 degrees. And New Year's Eve celebrations, if they are outside, could be below zero.

A Wind Chill Warning means the combination of very cold air and the wind will create dangerously low wind chill values.

Wind chill temperatures should drop between five and 15 degrees Sunday morning, and down to five below Monday morning. Wind chill values dip below 0° as we prepare to ring in the new year. Cold wind chills as low as 25 degrees below zero will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. In addition, consider bringing your pets indoors.
