House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that while Trump has made several statements and taken actions "that are beyond the pale for most Americans", it was important to allow congressional committees probing Russian meddling in the USA election and possible Trump campaign collusion to proceed with their work.

"Brought shame and dishonor to the office of president of the United States".

A Democrat congressman has vowed to force a vote to impeach President Donald Trump on Wednesday, a move party leaders have long sought to block despite mounting frustration from a small group of liberal lawmakers.

House Democratic leaders aren't in favor of pushing impeachment at this point as they seek to win back the majority next year. That's because Republicans narrowly control the House and Democrats are divided on the issue.

The impeachment resolution Green circulated Tuesday does not include any allegations of obstruction of justice or other alleged crimes connected to his 2016 presidential campaign or the pending investigations into connections to Russian Federation.

Democratic Rep. Al Green of Texas says Trump has associated his presidency with causes rooted in bigotry and racism.

Pelosi and Hoyer said in a statement that while legitimate questions exist about Trump's fitness to lead, now is not the time for impeachment.

"Tomorrow we will bring Articles of Impeachment to the floor of the Congress of the United States of America for a vote", Green said Tuesday morning on the House floor, announcing that "three prominent Democrats" have asked to meet with him to discuss impeachment.

Several Dems contend that it's premature to bring articles of impeachment before special counsel Robert Mueller completes his investigation into the Kremlin's election meddling.

Green also has cited Trump lashing out at NFL players who kneeled during the National Anthem to protest police brutality and his Muslim travel ban.

"Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment". Although his speech is not criminal, it divides and damages the country, Green wrote in a letter to his colleagues, according to CNN.

Pelosi and Hoyer released a joint statement ahead of a floor vote on articles of impeachment sponsored by Rep. Al Green.
