PM Modi optimistic about productive Winter Session

The Centre was recently targetted by the Opposition for delaying the winter session allegedly in the wake of Gujarat Assembly Elections.

"Main issues in the session will be supplementary demand for grants, Constitutional amendment Article 123 (Constitutional status to backward classes), Muslim women Right on Marriage 2017 bill".

He said in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha the 18th session of the 5th Lok Sabha, the duration was of just 12 days, while the 98th session of Rajya Sabha which was of 13 days saw just nine sittings.

This year's much delayed Winter Session of Parliament has begun on 15 December and is scheduled to conclude on 05 January 2018 with a total of 14 sittings.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge had asserted that the Congress party would raise various issues in the Parliament session including Goods and Services Tax (GST), demonetisation, Rafael deal and economic condition.

He said even in the all-party meeting held on Thursday, there was unanimity to use Parliament's time in a productive and positive manner.

On May 18, the ICJ ordered Pakistan to halt the execution of Jadhav until a final decision was made in the proceedings. Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa ratified the sentencing by the army tribunal.

An angry Opposition led by the Congress accused PM Modi of levelling "serious charges" against Singh, former vice president Hamid Ansari and diplomats.

PM Narendra Modi on Friday hoped the Winter Session of Parliament will be a productive one with constructive debates and innovative suggestions that will help resolve the country's problems.

"I hope there is constructive debate and we come up with innovative solutions to our nation's problems", Modi said.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel asked how the issue being raised was a point or order, which, he said, was related to the business of the House.

A leader, who attended the meeting, said the prime minister also pointed out the government's legislative agenda for the Winter Session and asked them to work together for pushing it in Parliament.
