Darrell Issa to retire from Congress amid record GOP exodus

Many Republicans want to use private sector investment to finance infrastructure projects to avoid increasing the national debt but Democrats think that government money is necessary to produce such a large package.

And Joshua Schoonover, a patent lawyer, said he'll no longer run for the seat held by Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, but has changed direction and is seeking the one Issa is leaving.

That changed on Wednesday morning, January 10, when a statement was released by Issa's office in Washington, D.C. declaring he would retire at the end of his term this year.

Shelly Simonds, the Democratic candidate for a Virginia House of Delegates seat, conceded the election to Republican David Yancey on Wednesday, marking the end of a wild election that came down to picking names from a bowl.

"For as much as we like to say "America is sick of politicians, ' incumbents still have a proven advantage in elections", said Kyle Kondik, managing editor of Sabato's Crystal Ball, published by the University of Virginia Center for Politics". He was held to 57 percent of the vote past year, a solid number but a mark that matched the lowest win percentage of his career, from his first election in 1992, and that came against a candidate who raised just $74,000 for his entire campaign. Issa's announcement followed that of Rep. Ed Royce, the Republican chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, who said Tuesday that he would not seek a 14th term.

"Secretary Clinton won this district by a huge margin in 2016, and the cohort of strong Democratic challengers, unprecedented grassroots activism, and historic investment by the DCCC in Southern California means we are in a strong position to elect a Democrat to the 49th District this fall", Godinich wrote. The others are Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida and Dave Reichert of Washington, along with Issa.

"I feel like I'm going out on top at a time when a generic Republican's going to win my district and I'm going to support the nominee on my side and then I'm going to continue to be very active", he said.

USA issues 'Level 2 travel advisory to India' for its citizens
Under the new system, every country has a Travel Advisory , providing levels of advice ranging from 1 to 4. Women have been discouraged from traveling alone as rape is "one of the fastest growing crimes in India".

"But keep in mind, the filing deadlines have not passed in those states", Wasserman said.

Assemblyman Rocky Chávez of Oceanside quickly became the first Republican to announce he would run for the open seat.

In California, at the forefront of the Democratic resistance to President Donald Trump, the party has also seen an energized activist base fueled in part by the emergence of new organizations such as Indivisible.

Royce has already announced his endorsement of businesswoman and former State Assembly Representative Young Kim to succeed him.

Democrats have a good chance to pick up the seat.

Still, Democrats are highly motivated. However, the departures may not prove significant as ten Senate Democrats are up for re-election in 2018 in states that President Trump won and only two races, Flake in Arizona and Sen.
