India says $500 million missile deal with Israel will move ahead

India, last month, had joined 127 other countries to vote in favour of a resolution opposing the recent decision of US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The deal's reported reactivation comes ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's trip to India next week.

The deal is now being reworked as a "government-to-government" contract, so that India purchases the missiles from the Israeli state rather than from a company based in Israel, he said.

But Modi has said he wants to end India's status as the world's number one defense importer and to have 70 per cent of hardware manufactured domestically by the turn of the decade.

Israel's Saare Tzedek hospital would be signing an agreement with India's ministry of health and family welfare as well. Last year, Israel's 26 Oscar nominees of Hollywood refused to travel to Israel.
