J&K: Death toll mounts to 8 in avalanche in Kupwara

Three dead bodies recovered while two people were also rescued out of nine reportedly missing in an overnight accident that took place in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district in Kashmir.

"Ten bodies were recovered today from the avalanche site", deputy commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jehangir told PTI.

Jehangir said a total of eleven people were killed in the avalanche.

"A passenger was pulled out of the snow in the early hours of Saturday morning, while a child was rescued soon after the accident last evening".

It may be mentioned hare that a Border Roads Organization (BRO) official was killed after an avalanche hit the Kupwara-Tangdhar road in North Kashmir on Friday afternoon. "His body has been recovered while rescue operation to locate the eight missing people continued", the official added. The person identified s Ghulam Nabi Bhat s/o Ali Mohd Bhat of Kalmoona, Taratpora was immediacy shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.
