The news release said associates at the locations being closed will be offered a chance to interview for available positions at other stores.

Bon-Ton Stores, which operates Younkers as well as Bon-Ton, Elder-Beerman, Carson's, Herberger's and Boston Store in 24 states, announced Wednesday 47 stores under their umbrella would close in 2018.

In November, the company announced it would be closing the Bon-Ton Store at the St. Lawrence Centre Mall in Massena.

Also closing in IL are Carson's stores in Danville and DeKalb and a Bergner's store in Peoria.

Bon-Ton has operated at the Berkshire Mall since its acquisition of Pomeroy's in 1987.

Besides closing unprofitable branches, Bon-Ton's restructuring plan includes changing its merchandise to more desirable goods, improving marketing and boosting online sales. Sales will run for approximately 10 to 12 weeks.

John Wall to Undergo Knee Surgery, Could Miss 6-8 Weeks
Wall did not play Sunday after it was revealed that he was dealing with a recurrence of soreness and swelling in his left knee. Also, the injury sustained by John Wall this season has given Beal a greater opportunity to play his game.

The closures affect Carson's stores in Chicago's Riverside Plaza and in Danville, DeKalb and Schaumburg; Carson's Clearance Centers in Aurora and Morton Grove; and a Bergner's in Peoria.

In December, he said he would like to have a large space that he could aggressively market to a company that would draw in many customers.

There's no word from the mall who may take Bon-Ton's place.

"I am going to miss it that's for sure".

The women said they believe closing doesn't bode well for the mall.

"The owners of the mall need to decide where to go from here", Mayor Robert Mielke said. "I am here all the time", said Judith Fox, Stroudsburg.
