Look for a lobster emoji to surface this year

"Great news for ME - we're getting a lobster emoji!" wrote the 73-year-old senator, cleverly signing off his tweet with cow and crown emoji (Get it?). A formal request was submitted to the Unicode Consortium by King himself in September 2017, The Hill reported.

King signed his tweet with an emoji for a cow followed by another for a crown.

The Unicode Consortium describes its role as "developing, maintaining, and promoting software internationalization standards and data", according to the group's site. These images are just samples and vendors for mobile phones, PCs, and web platforms will typically use images that fit their overall emoji designs.

Previewed at the end of past year, Emoji 11.0 has now been finalized and includes 157 new emoji, bringing the total number of official emoji to 2,832. One of its responsibilities is controlling the emojis that smartphone users can add to their texts and other messages.
