BJP candidates in the fray were Jaitley, Ashok Bajpai, Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, Sakal Deep Rajbhar, Kanta Kardam, Anil Jain, Harnath Singh Yadav GVL Narasimha Rao and Anil Kumar Agarwal, a businessman. "It was more out of the political compulsions of the BSP facing existential crisis then allying with the SP to stop the BJP", said a political analyst.
