Lewis Hamilton fires F1 title warning to Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari, last year's runner-up in the drivers' championship, was third-fastest, almost a second behind world champion Hamilton.

Mercedes driver Valterri Bottas will not attempt to play any mind games with his team-mate and four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton over the course of the 2018 as he believes it is a waste of energy.

It was a busy day at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona after snowfall and cold temperatures kept most cars in the garage on Wednesday.

Hamilton posted a lap of 1 minute, 19.333 seconds, the best of the week.

"From an operational point of view, everything went smoothly and I'd say the vehicle is working", Vettel said.

"It's really hard to know where we are at the moment, but we will know some more at the end of next week".

Vandoorne's time of 1:19.854 was still half a second slower than Hamilton's.

This week Sebastian Vettel said Ferrari are ready to claim their first Formula One drivers' title for more than a decade, but Hamilton insists he is not concerned by their challenge. Vettel was next with 120 laps, followed by Vandoorne's 110.

When addressing the media at the launch day for Mercedes' 2018 model, Hamilton told the assembled media: "You have to expect that it could be worse. I'm really looking forward to next week and to getting back in and learning more".

As for Red Bull, Max Verstappen had a troubled day on Thursday as he did short runs, had a spin into the gravel and also a vehicle problem. What is less clear is what is going on at Red Bull, with Verstappen having very little running, and then going off at turn 12, bringing out the second red flag of the day as the Red Bull was recovered.

Drivers still needed wet tyres early in the session, but conditions improved significantly in the afternoon and drivers were able to finish on dry tyres.

After three days of unusually cold weather, the teams finally managed some effective running in warmer conditions on Thursday.

Speaking during the final day of Test One at Barcelona, Vettel replied to those comments, telling Sky Sports News: ' [I think] pretty much the same.
