The Highway Patrol's SWAT team entered the home just after midnight.

The women in the house at the time were not injured and were taken into custody. The other two officers sustained non-life threatening wounds, authorities said. "Rest in peace Officer Morton".

Morton joined the Army in November 2005 and was twice deployed. Members of the Bates County Tactical Team and members of the Troop A SWAT Team entered the residence to remove Officer Morton.
