Oscars 2018: how to watch and what to expect

WASHINGTOND.C. [U.S.]: Days before the 90th Academy Awards ceremony, a silk robe-swaddled golden statue of Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, holding an Oscar and sitting on a golden chaise couch was erected on Thursday.

This is THE red carpet of all red carpet events for celebrities around the world. Network itself, who ran an investigation into the accusations. Until Sunday (March 4) rolls around, that's the big question as awards season winds down, with the Academy Awards still being the top prize of all for filmmakers and actors. The woman's activist group has raised over $21 million for their legal fund since it's inception. Inside, whoever bestows the best actress award will be substituting for Casey Affleck, who turned down the job to deflect attention away from his own past harassment scandals. Many predictions for the Oscar winners stem from an overwhelming sense that whatever film dominates previous awards shows (the SAG Awards, Golden Globes, etc.) will more than likely be the victor, though this isn't always the case.

Robbie is one of our young Oscar nominees this year.

Another case of bulldozing through all the preceding awards shows, it would be one of the biggest upsets of all time if Frances McDormand didn't win this one.

Cullinan won't be back this year, and the Academy has banned "electronic devices" backstage to ensure there are no more distraction- related foul-ups.

Accountants for PricewaterhouseCoopers, the firm responsible for tabulating Oscar ballots, had handed Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway the wrong envelope.

What about the movies and performances?

Director Guillermo del Toro, victor of the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for "The Shape of Water", and actors Sally Hawkins and Richard Jenkins pose in the press room during the 70th Annual Directors Guild Of America Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 3, 2018 in Beverly Hills, California. While several science fiction movies have been nominated in the past, none has ever won Best Picture. It's a well-made, good-intentioned, unassailably noble movie, as well as a film that I've never known anyone to watch twice.

Derrick Lewis trolls Brock Lesnar on UFC rumors
Always out to grab headlines, UFC president Dana White threw some gasoline on those Brock Lesnar return rumors. In an earlier interview with TMZ Sports, White said he'd like to see Lesnar back with the UFC . "...

Kimmel and the show's producers have even made light of the "Envelopegate" disaster from previous year.

Peele is only the fourth African American man to be nominated in this category.

At first this seems pretty hard to call, because Three Billboards is a leading favourite and Lady Bird is a dazzling piece of casually tossed off wisdom and insight masquerading as a screenplay and Get Out a pretty daring movie of the moment masquerading as a horror flick.

"Mudbound" scored another first, with soul diva Mary J. Blige the first person nominated for acting and best original song in the same film.

As much as I loved Saoirse Ronan in Lady Bird and Meryl Streep in The Post (a bit of an unheralded performance, if you ask me), there's no denying the many captivating nuances brought by McDormand into her performance in Three Billboards. Get Out's Jordan Peele is the first black filmmaker ever nominated for directing, writing, and producing in the same year. Each represented a category of the academy - Actors, Writers, Directors, Producers and Technicians. Peele is only the fifth black person to be nominated for Best Director, joining John Singleton, Lee Daniels, Steve McQueen, and Barry Jenkins on that list.

When someone wins their first Oscar.

That's right, if you didn't get a chance to make it to the movie theater to see The Shape of Water, Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri, Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, Get Out or Dunkirk, you can rent or buy any or all of those movies right now on Amazon.
