Nixon, 51, will run against Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in the Democratic primary later this year.

Nixon talks about being raised in New York as she takes her child to school, rides the New York City subway and walks the city streets. "She's really smart - she asks a lot of questions, and she sees the way all of these issues are tied together by the way money in politics works in NY".

Nixon has been acting since she was 12 but really made a mark starring alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Kim Cattrall in Sex and the City from 1998 to 2004.

On her campaign website, Nixon described herself as a "progressive fighter" who has focused on "LGBTQ equality, women's rights, and better public schools".

It remains unclear how much Cuomo may be damaged by the recent conviction of an aide for bribery. Other former Cuomo associates face federal corruption trials later this year. "On health care, ending massive incarceration, fixing our broken subway", Nixon said in a video announcing her candidacy.

A Siena College poll released Monday showed Cuomo leading her 66 percent to 19 percent among registered Democrats, and by a similar margin among self-identified liberals.

Nixon's announcement came towards the end of Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo's second term in office. Instead our campaign will be powered by the people.

In the week building up to Ireland's trip to Twickenham, footage has emerged showing Eddie Jones talking about 'the scummy Irish'. The former Japan coach was recalling a story about junior Japanese side losing to their Welsh rivals as he muttered: " Wales! ".

Miranda Hobbes for Governor? However, given his close connections to Nixon, de Blasio is unlikely to support Cuomo this time. And it showed the governor's job performance rating slipping by seven points.

"It's great that we live in a democracy where anyone can run for office", the statement reads.

"We look forward to building on that record as we continue to fight and deliver for NY families statewide", read the statement, which did not mention Nixon by name.

The governor was asked earlier in March about the possibility of Nixon challenging him. The video, which featured contrasting images of New York City and dilapidated areas of the state, had Nixon claiming that New York was the "most unequal state in the entire country".

She took to Twitter to tell her followers she loved NY, along with a video that was oh-so campaign-perfect. "I'm going to leave it to you great investigative reporters to follow the facts and ferret out the truth". Nixon's wife, Christine Marinoni, recently stepped down from her position in the de Blasio administration. Four years ago, he was challenged by relative unknown Zephyr Teachout, who managed to win 34 percent of the primary vote. "But heading into today, we know where New Yorkers stand at the very beginning of Cynthia Nixon's campaign".

Republican leaders, meanwhile, have been coalescing behind Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro as a candidate, with state Sen. So far, the governor is almost 30 points ahead of both men.
