Guice slides to Redskins

The Redskins grabbed the LSU running back with the No. 59 overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.

The team followed with Louisiana running back Derrius Guice in the second round and Louisville offensive tackle Geron Christian in the third round. Guice was previously projected as a first-round pick but slipped to late in the second after a tumultuous offseason that including changing agents and fielding what he considered inappropriate questions from teams at the scouting combine.

Key dropped on some Draft boards after answering off-the-field concerns from National Football League scouts, after taking a leave of absence from the program before the 2017 season started.

Guice had been viewed by some as the second-best running back in the draft, behind the Giants' No. 2 pick, Saquon Barkley, but his stock fell leading up to the draft because of to some off-the-field concerns.

This comes on the heels of Guice denying said allegations.

"It did surprise me because a lot of the things came out of nowhere and weren't true", Guice said on a conference call Friday, according to ESPN.

After rushing for 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2016, Guice gained 1,251 yards and scored 11 touchdowns on the ground at LSU last season. Six running backs had been taken ahead of him by that point, including three others from the SEC. So, what are they getting in Guice?

Immature. High maintenance. A headache for coaches.
