And on the desktop front, Intel's low-power Core i3 chips now have four cores, while the Core i5 have six. This is the highest-performance laptop processor Intel has ever built to deliver the best gaming and content creation experience on the go.

The Intel® Thermal Velocity Boost feature is supported on Intel® Core™ i9-8950HK and Intel® Xeon® Processor E-2186M and is created to increase performance of both multi-threaded and single-threaded workloads.

Unlike the new Radeon RX Vega M processors which are meant for thinner and lighter laptops, similar to Nvidia's Max-Q architecture, the Core i9 series is meant for more powerful machines where performance is king. Now Intel is bringing Core i9 to laptops.

Having "more cores" is definitely new mantra this season irrespective of desktop or laptop processors.

Rumors that Intel's first Coffee Lake Core i9 processor would be made for laptops have been around since November past year.

The Intel Optane technology has always been a smart bit of storage accelerating goodness... it's just that in these days of affordable SSDs many PC gamers have already got their Windows installation booting from one.

When Intel launched Coffee Lake last summer, it led with a relatively anemic lineup of desktop and mobile parts.

The H series of Intel Core processors brings hexa-core design to Intel Core i7 chips for the first time in the i7-8850H with a 2.6GHz clock speed that boosts to 4.3GHz when needed with a 9MB cache in tow. Traditionally, these CPUs are used in OEM configurations, but enthusiasts looking for ultra-small form factor and quiet PCs have been known to use these CPUs in the past.

Indeed, we are told that "it is the first mobile Intel processor with six cores and 12 threads", to which the world can rightly wonder why it took so long. This adds integrated Gigabit Wi-Fi for a blazing-fast connection that is capable of being up to 2x faster than standard 2×2 802.11AC 80 MHz (867 Mbps).

Optane Memory has also received an update, with new support for data drive acceleration.

As is typically the case, the Core i9 on mobile is a very different beast than its desktop counterpart. Intel also operates R&D centers in Haifa, Jerusalem, Petach Tikva and Yakum.

It isn't only i9 chips that are coming to laptops-Intel's entire eighth-generation lineup, including i7 and i5s, are making the leap to laptops.
