Janelle Monae has opened up about her sexuality and revealed she identifies as "pansexual".

Though Janelle didn't talk to Rolling Stone about her relationship with actress Tessa Thompson, she said she'd love it if her album "Dirty Computer" dropping on Friday, will inspire young listeners who may be struggling to come to terms with their sexuality, too.

Monae, 32, said that, at first, she identified as bisexual but that she's also learning about being pansexual: "I read about pansexuality and was like, 'Oh, these are things that I identify with too.' I'm open to learning more about who I am".

The "Tightrope" singer's sexuality has often been a topic of conversation in the past with her music reflecting her feelings towards both genders and the video for "Make Me Feel" where Janelle is seen running back and forth between men and women and many have assumed the song was a bisexual anthem.

Monae has dodged inquiries about her sexuality and let questions about her rumoured relationships with women, including "Thor: Ragnarok" actress Tessa Thompson, go unanswered.
