Shaquem Griffin defines odds and get drafted by the Seahawks

The University of Central Florida linebacker, who doesn't have a left hand because of a congenital condition, found out Saturday he'll be playing alongside twin brother Shaquill with the Seahawks.

The Seahawks plan to start out Griffin at weakside linebacker, the spot K.J. Wright has manned exclusively since 2014. "I'm extremely blessed", Shaquem said.

Since the, he's been the talk of the league, and the outpouring of support from the entire NFL and wider sporting community after he was drafted was wonderful to see.

"My brother kind of tackled me with my cellphone, saying 'Answer it, answer it!,' " Shaquem said.

Griffin gained nationwide recognition at an National Football League showcase in March after he ran the fastest 40-yard dash for any linebacker since 2003. His twin brother, Shaquill, recognized the 425 area code that flashed on the screen and started charging after his brother.

Anyone who has followed the NFL Draft knows how much Shaquill Griffin wanted his brother to join him in Seattle this season.

I get that Shaquem only has one hand, but he's proven he can be be an awesome player despite his disability.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said Griffin has great speed, is mature beyond his years, and they are going to try to put him in situations where he can succeed.

"That was the phone call I was waiting for my entire life", Shaquem said regarding the call from Seattle general manager John Schneider when he was chosen. "It definitely was a tough three days".

'If I can get to a practice, that's when everyone is going to see who I really am.

Terrell Hinson is from Orlando and is a big UCF fan.

The fourth selection of Saturday's fifth round, Griffin was the 14th linebacker taken overall and eighth outside linebacker. The excitement, it's insane because you're around so many great guys in that setting and you're in the green room and you're moving around and seeing how the anxiety is building up. "You believe you're better than guys who go ahead of you is tough". Being able to play fast and having a high football IQ are something that will aid Shaquem as he learns the ropes at the professional level.

"It's been a really good experience", Shaquem said. "It was me making sure I was enjoying the moment that I was here in Dallas".
