The Wall Street Journal states Cohen negotiated a deal a year ago on behalf of Elliott Broidy, a deputy finance chairman for the Republican National Committee.
"She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", Broidy said in a statement provided to the AP.

A top Donald Trump donor and GOP official admitted to having an affair with a former Playboy model and giving her money - reportedly facilitated by President Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen - to terminate her pregnancy.
Shortly after publishing the story, a Journal reporter tweeted that the RNC had accepted Broidy's resignation as deputy finance chair.
The nondisclosure agreement between Broidy and the woman includes the woman's allegation that Broidy paid her for a sexual relationship that lasted one to two years, The Journal reported. He also wrote that it was "unfortunate that this personal matter between two consenting adults is the subject of national discussion just because of Michael Cohen's involvement". Daniels at the time of the payment was being represented by Keith Davidson, the same attorney who represented the woman in the Broidy negotiations, according to the Journal. Broidy said he retained Cohen because Cohen had a prior relationship with Davidson. Cohen is a national deputy finance chairman for the RNC. The New York Times has described him using his access to Trump to push for policy moves, including the firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, that were backed by leaders in the United Arab Emirates, where Broidy has lucrative defense contracts.

He filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles federal court last month, accusing the Gulf nation of Qatar of stealing and leaking emails to reporters in retribution for Broidy's attempts to influence the Trump administration in favour of regional rivals of Qatar.
Broidy has always been known as a "bundler" of campaign contributions for Republicans.
Neither Cohen nor his lawyer immediately responded to requests for comment on the settlement, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. Those are the same names used to identify Donald Trump and Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) in a 2016 agreement.
Davidson and Cohen were also in communication about a third agreement involving former Playboy centerfold Karen McDougal. National Enquirer's parent company, American Media Inc.is run by David Pecker, a longtime friend of Trump's.
McDougal has sued to break free of her contract so she can speak freely, arguing that her story about Trump is "core political speech entitled to the highest protection under the law".
