What to Know About the Scandal Engulfing Missouri Governor Eric Greitens

The report cited a woman whose name was withheld, who says Greitens repeatedly groped her, slapped her across the face, coerced her into sex and verbally abused her.

26 - Missouri House leaders announce who will sit on the committee to investigate the governor, the first step in the process of considering impeachment.

Eric Greitens is under intense scrutiny: Lawmakers are calling for him to resign (and considering impeachment) after the release of a sexually explicit, state-issued report tied to a felony charge.

The scandal now enveloping the governor has marked a sharp fall for Greitens, a former Navy SEAL who was viewed as a rising national star in the Republican Party.

Facing mounting calls to resign following sexual misconduct allegations, Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens appears to be taking a cue from President Donald Trump as he fights for his political survival amid a #MeToo movement that has felled dozens of other prominent politicians and public figures.

"The conduct the report details is certainly impeachable, in my judgment", Hawley said in a statement.

But Greitens is vowing to remain in office and prove his innocence against mounting allegations that he denounced as "lies and falsehoods".

Thus far, Tate and his State Senate counterpart Dave Schatz, R-Sullivan, are still taking the wait and see approach before passing final judgement on the fate of the governor who is now facing a felony invasion of privacy charge in this matter.

House Speaker Tom Richardson, a Republican, said he would seek a special session of the Legislature to take action against Greitens, which could include impeachment.

The legislative report was signed by all five Republicans and two Democrats on the committee.

The House committee report notes that Greitens declined to testify before it.

On Twitter, Kendrick called Greitens "scum". Representative Deb Lavender called the report "graphic", and said the alleged victim is credible and Greitens should resign in the wake of the report's release. Critics have pointed out that the investigative committee was bi-partisan, but it was created by and run by Republicans. He said: "Let me be very clear about this: This is not a witch hunt, and the committee had no political agenda".

She testified that Greitens then said "You're not going to mention my name".

After they went to the house's basement, Greitens taped her hands to the pull-up rings with gauze tape and put a blindfold on her, items which had been laying on a workout bench, the report said.

A week later he invited her to his home while his wife was out of town, saying they could not talk in public because he was running for office.

However, she described two more nonconsensual incidents: one where Greitens smacked her hard across the face and said "you're mine", after she confessed to having sex with her husband, and another in which he "out of nowhere, just, like, kind of smacked me and grabbed me and shoved me down on the ground" during a sexual encounter. After taking her keys, searching her purse, and patting her down, he said he wanted to show her a workout and invited her to change into an outfit he'd put out for her - men's pajama trousers and a t-shirt with a slit cut at the top. "I felt really used". She said she arrived around 7 a.m. and told him she had to be at work in 45 minutes. The woman testified that she then heard a click, like of a cellphone picture, and saw a flash. "He does it and he's like, 'You're not going to be a bad girl, are you?' Tries to do it again, to which I just let it dribble out, because I didn't even want to kiss him". "They are going to be everywhere, and then everyone will know what a little whore you are".

"So he's got this whole thing down of what he was going to say or whatever, but he was super - he was in a controlled state, which at this point was intriguing to me'".

"According to the report, when asked if she consented, the witness replied: "'It felt like consent, but, no, I didn't want to do it'".

"So he was laying there and I was laying next to him just crying - like uncontrollably crying", she said. She said Greitens then grabbed her in a hug and laid her down.

The woman said she stayed silent, thinking that this was the "most embarrassing thing" that had ever happened to her, before finally saying she wouldn't tell anyone. Asked by the committee whether the oral sex was coerced, she responded: "Coerced, maybe". I believe that there is one person who could get this soldier to stand down.

She told the committee that Greitens then laid her down on the ground, preceded to lay down beside her and pulled down his trousers.
