Boy Scouts to drop 'boy' from namesake program upon welcoming girls

The Boy Scouts of America announced in Evansville Thursday evening they will accept girls into the program. "Our girls are so strong and so committed to this organization, and we have a bright future ahead", said Patricia Pyke, Chief Executive Officer, Girl Scouts of Silver Sage. The group as a whole will remain Boy Scouts of America, but when it comes to their program, they will be dropping boy and changing it to Scouts BSA.

Notably, the recruitment of girls into the Scouts program allows them to reach the rank of Eagle Scout - which is the organization's highest designation, and which Williams' son just reached - for the first time.

Cub Scouts will formally accept girls starting this summer.

On Wednesday, the organization revealed its new gender inclusive campaign, "Scout Me In", which aims to welcome both boys and girls to the organization.
