Gaza officials: 86 hurt by Israeli fire in border protest

The baby reportedly may not have been killed from tear gas shot by Israeli soldiers on the Palestinian protesters, part of a series of protests dubbed the "Great March of Return", but rather died from a preexisting condition.

"The explosive device went off during the clearing procedure".

A statement from the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, the Al-Quds Brigades, claimed the two as members.

The deceased were identified as 25-year-old Hussein al-Amour and 28-year-old Abdul Haleem al-Naqa, the Palestinian health ministry said.

An independent inquiry into the 2014 war in Gaza by the UN Human Rights Council concluded that "the tunnels were only used to conduct attacks directed at IDF (Israeli army) positions in Israel in the vicinity of the Green Line, which are legitimate military targets".

Israel Defence Minister on Sunday announced that construction had begun on a marine barrier with the Gaza Strip extending into the Mediterranean Sea.

To counter that threat, the Israeli military said it has mobilized private drone-racers as army reservists, who then try to ram into the kites with the remote-controlled aircraft.

Only hours before late Saturday night, Israeli warplanes carried out an air strike in southern Gaza after four Palestinians infiltrated into Israel earlier in the day. No injuries were reported in the incident.

No Israelis have been killed in the clashes.
