Jay Bruce defends Matt Harvey over refusing minor league assignment

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson revealed the news during a press conference prior to Friday's game against the Colorado Rockies.

He will be designated for assignment Saturday morning, taking him off the major league roster after a almost six seasons in a Mets uniform.

Harvey was in the final year of his contract.

As Bill wrote earlier this week, this move was a necessary one. It's been more of the same this season, and in 27 innings he has thrown to an ugly 7.00 ERA.

The former UNC right-hander-a former first-round MLB Draft choice who rose to fame with the New York Mets as an All-Star in 2013-was designated for assignment Friday by the only major league team he's ever played for. The Mets recently moved Harvey to the bullpen, but he struggled with the transition and allowed five runs in an 11-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday at Citi Field.

You could see this train wreck coming a mile away.

Moon to visit Washington ahead of Trump-Kim meeting
That session was considered among the last steps before Trump could schedule a face-to-face meeting with Kim. Kim then invited Moon to cross briefly north with him before they returned to the southern side.

Ultimately it's the performance which sunk him.

Despite Harvey's recent struggles, a team in need of a starting pitcher could take a chance that he'll bounce back with a change of scenery. He was still effective at times that season, though his stuff was not as sharp.

"We're very pleased he is healthy and with more-than-needed Major League Baseball velo", Boras' text said. There's no telling how much of what befell Harvey was outside of his control, however, and it's certainly possible that the thoracic outlet operation is what did him in more so than any amount of late nights.

Mental makeup issues will dominate the Matt Harvey story, but poor health led him where he is today.

"Just getting used to the preparation".

Harvey is owed approximately $4.625 million for the remainder of this year before he becomes a free agent at the end of the season. He pitched to a 6.70 ERA in 2017, missing a long chunk of the season with injury. He's just a broken pitcher now and would be even if he had a winning temperament. After a fantastic debut for the team, Harvey underwent Tommy John surgery and returned stronger than ever in 2015, leading the team to a World Series.
