Satellite photos indicate North Korea has begun dismantling its nuclear test site ahead of a historic summit between leader Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump, a USA monitor said Tuesday.

Pompeo said private-sector Americans could help rebuild North Korea's energy grid and develop the country's infrastructure.

Kim's latest diplomatic overture has seen him hold a summit with the South's President Moon Jae-in and travel twice in less than two months to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

"Now that North Korea has accepted in principle that agreements should be verified, US negotiators should hold them to this standard for any subsequent agreement", said Adam Mount, a senior defense analyst at the Federation of American Scientists.

White House National Security Adviser John Bolton said on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday that North Korea's future could be "unbelievably strong" if it follows through on its commitment to denuclearize.

Satellite images appear to show North Korea is shuttering its nuclear test site, according to analysts from North Korean monitoring site 38 North.

In a first comment on the North Korean proposal on Sunday, Seoul welcomed the decision to include foreign media as a move towards transparency on the path to denuclearization.

The top USA diplomat did not elaborate, but his comment could refer to the type of assurances North Korea has sought in the past.

"It'd be the best money we ever spent", Graham told host Margaret Brennan. However, a final attempt by Bush to complete an agreement to fully dismantle North Korea's nuclear weapons program collapsed that December when the North refused to accept US -proposed verification methods.

On Kim's demeanor, Pompeo said "conversations are professional" and that the North Korean leader "knows his brief" and is "able to deal with complexity when the conversation requires it".

"I'm not trying to spread democracy to North Korea", he said.

South Korea had no immediate response to the statement. "I'm trying to stop an unstable regime from having more weapons that can hit America". But some experts still doubt how committed Kim is to taking serious disarmament steps because his country was close to achieving its goal of possessing nuclear missiles targeting the mainland US after decades of struggle.
