The moon sighting committee under the Islamic Foundation decides when Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in Bangladesh.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, has declared Friday June 15, 2018 as the day to mark the Eid-el-Fitr, and the end of Ramadan fast.
The zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees met at their respective headquarters simultaneously.
This is the first time in recent history, Muslims in India and Pakistan have started the fasting of Ramadan on the same day.
There are sub-committees in every district of Bangladesh; if the moon is sighted anywhere in any district, the sub-committee reports back to the central committee, and the foundation makes the declaration that initiates nationwide jubilation.

A new month in the Islamic Calendar is decided based on sighting of the crescent - the new moon, on the 29th day of an ongoing month.
Eid Mubarak! May the seeds of your prayers throughout the month bear you brilliant fruits of prosperity throughout the year. The crescent moon of Shawwal could not be sighted in the country on Thursday and hence Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan announced.
Eid al-Fitr has a particular Salat (Islamic prayer) which is generally offered in an open field or a large hall with congregation in attendance.
"On this auspicious occasion as the Muslim Holy month concludes, a spirit of renewal for continued peace is paramount and should be encouraged by all believers", Mutharika said in a statement.
Muslims believe that they are commanded by God, as mentioned in Quran, to continue their fast until the last day of Ramadan and pay the Zakat al-Fitr -a ritual offering- before offering the Eid prayers. During this period, Muslim faithful prayed, strived for spiritual growth, scarified and gave time and effort to those in need. A huge amount of money and food were also donated in the Holy month of Ramadan to help the poor and needy.
