Since Matthews was a fan of video games and the Boston Celtics, his family used Sunday's wake as an opportunity to feature him doing what he loved.
The 18-year-old Renard Matthews of New Orleans, LA, was robbed and shot dead on June 25 while strolling with his dog. WDSU-TV reports his body was positioned in a chair and he had a video game controller in his lap.
Matthews, who attended McDonogh 35 High School, loved the Boston Celtics and playing video games. All of these things clearly meant a lot to Matthews, and it's a gesture that while unusual, is the send-off that his family felt would be the best representation of how they'd like to remember him; enjoying himself. On a side table next to him were his favorite snacks: Doritos, a box of Chocolate Chip Crunch, and a bottle of soda.
