Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has had a dig at his former side Chelsea by stating that the standard is much higher at the European Champions.

"Keylor Navas is our player and had a great game against Girona, before being named the best goalkeeper by UEFA".

Courtois, whose long-desired move to Madrid was completed last month, made his first appearance after sitting out the first two La Liga games behind Keylor Navas.

Benzema is the current top goalscorer in La Liga so far this season, having netted four times under new Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui.

Three points in the league, with Real Madrid looking to stay in first place.

He told German outlet Het Nieuwsblad: 'In training, you see that the level at Real Madrid is high, ' said Courtois.

Courtois will already be an unpopular figure in the Chelsea camp after the way he conducted himself towards the end of his time at Stamford Bridge. After he and his teammates had been beaten by France in the semi-final of the World Cup in July, Courtois whined about what he saw as France's negative tactics.

"It's (the Bernabeu) twice as big (as Stamford Bridge), of course, it's a very different feeling. If you look forward you only see a wall of people, while at Stamford Bridge you can still see the sky or the hotel behind the grandstand".

For all the chatters of struggles following the shock departure of talisman Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, Real Madrid is cruising through the league.

Courtois has responded with another jibe, sneering: "I am now experiencing on a daily basis that [Sergio] Ramos is the best centre back in the world".
