Trump Wrongly Touts Economy Growth Milestone vs. Unemployment

Kevin Hassett, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, on Monday told reporters President Donald Trump tweeted an incorrect claim that U.S. gross domestic product had surpassed the rate of unemployment for the first time in more than a century.

"The Economy is sooo good, perhaps the best in our country's history", Mr Trump tweeted on Monday, adding moments later that he had taken gross domestic product (GDP) growth over 4.2 per cent "and we will do much better than this".

Standing behind the same podium where the former White House press secretary Sean Spicer once falsely claimed that Trump's inauguration drew the largest crowd there had ever been, Hassett thanked the reporter for the chance to set the record straight.

But the Obama administration also celebrated economic gains, with a 5.1 percent GDP in the second quarter of 2014 and four quarters of growth above the 4.0 percentage rate.

Another prominent Trump ally who contradicted the president's claim was the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, Kevin Hassett. "But what is true is that it's the highest in 10 years, and at some point somebody probably conveyed it to him, adding a zero to that, and they shouldn't have done that".

CBS will pay ousted chief Les Moonves $120 million if its ongoing investigation fails to find any evidence of sexual misconduct. Shari Redstone-controlled NAI will also consider in good faith any other deal suggested by those unaffiliated directors.

In the end, Sanders backed down, with evidence that the black employment rate was 3.2 million under the Obama presidency and just 700,000 under Trump.

The first two numbers are correct, although they measure completely different things, and in different ways.

Trump offered the bit of misinformation during a series of tweets touting the economy. What magic wand do you have?

This wasn't the first time Hassett has weighed in on a presidential tweet.
